Retail therapy at its best. Spent the morning browsing in a plant nursery with a friend. Surrounded by drowsy bees and puddles of water and oh! the plants. Pitcher plants (sly looking creatures that entranced me – the pitchers change colour from pale yellow green to red throats as they digest their insecty meal)…All the ingredients for an italian feast growing in pots – tomatoes and basil and oregano and citrus…Bonsai rain trees and ficus – covetous couture of the plant world. Plants to entice sunbirds and other to attract the butterflies and bees. Plants to keep mosquitoes away and to soothe sunburn. Some just to please the senses. Deep yellow hibiscus and a fragrant white bell flower, blooming right now on my balcony. Tiny blossoms of lavender and gorgeous grafted cacti, crowned for perpetuity with yellow and red. The smell of crushed allspice leaves and the delight of mangoes and chikoos fruiting on barely two feet tall trees. A cat to twine around my ankles and a dog to laugh with. And such a pleasure to meet the enthusiastic and expert owners.
My heart (and the trunk of my car) is full. Happy me.
